Placed my order for this a500l kit earlier this week. I am so excited. Sounds like a great begginer SLR. This is my first.

Hope that some of this helped a bit with understanding the numbers on the lens. Thanks again for this video. You went into much more detail than most videos.

The 3.5-5.6 represents how much light is let into the lens by regulating a hole in the lens. The smaller the number, the larger the hole, thereby creating a brighter image.
18-55 tells you that the lens can zoom from a setting of 18mm ( all the way out) to 55mm ( zoomed all the way in). The larger the end number, the further the lens can zoom.
The SAM simply stands for Smooth Auto-focus Motor. It's a design that Sony has come up with that creates a very quick and precise focus.

Thanks for this video. I'm purchasing the A500 after Christmas and have been drooling over unboxing videos.
The numbers on the lens i.e. 3.5-5.6/18-55 SAM represent the aperture, the focal length, and a designation for the type of lens it is respectively.

will you be reviewing the A550 as well?

You should upload your videos to Veoh and Blip. YouTube is so slow now. It seems only YouTube parters are on the good servers. Also you should get a Ning account with a message board. 5 stars for this video.

nice video.

It's a Casio DB-E30. I've been wearing it for the past 5 years :) Awesome watch.
