Its just a default wallpaper in OS X, would assume its pretty hi-res, if not then I'd just search google for planet earth wallpapers, they'll be loads real similar to this out there.

Most of mine are avi (xvid, divx).
If you have problems getting certain formats to play on your mac, try the Perian plugin for quicktime and frontrow, and also VLC Player is a very good media player, but I do think Plex can play most formats you'll come across.
