My solution to the energy wasted by my gadgets? Another gadget! My first step to reducing my carbon emissions 10% by 2010. Something we all need to do, or we die. Basically.

For my blog post (and all the maths and evidence behind the 10% necessary cut) see http://www.hannahnicklin.com/2009/09/1010/

For the 10:10 initiative see http://www.1010uk.org/ or @tentenuk on Twitter

And to buy one of these of your very own check out http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=228460&C=SO&U=strat15 -- not the model I have (I'm too poor for extravagance!) but I reckon these are doubly good because they have a timer function too.

I am @hannahnicklin on twitter. Come say hello.

  • @wenetvideo - yep!

@Documentally, I don't drink coffee, but wine, wine may have to be the last thing to go. Hopefully around the same time Cornwall start producing palatable stuff.

@twittervlog I don't eat cow&sheep, nor milk, but I still eat cheese. Basically you will have to prise cheese and wine from my cold, dead hands. Thanks RE the first attempt, will keep shorter next time, and work out how to point stuff *at* the iPhone's lens, not just to the left of it.

    thanks all :)

  • someone crashed into my car a month ago and I'm not getting a new car till december. I'm guessing thats a good 10% of my emissions that i'm not gonna use by not buying petrol... yay me!

  • Brilliant - I didn't know about these.

I've given up eating cows & pigs & sheep - meat production (particularly ruminants) being responsible 20% of emissions, apparently.

But I still use a massive amount of power. Busy household and office - lots of gadgets - this seems like a great solution.

Impressive first vlog, too. Most people are much less articulate and considerably more self-conscious... Never mind 'Photovoltaic' - when I started, I could barely pronounce my own name...

  • Food.. Don't forget you can eat more locally produced foods. So no wine or coffee. /unless you have a really decent green house. :)

  • very good!

my friend saved energy by filling a flask with water every morning and making drinks with it all day. dunno if that helped...

I reckon one of the best ways we could reduce our carbon footprint is by getting broadband out to the rural areas so that people don't need to travel into town every day. So many jobs could be done at home. Many meetings could be held online with video conferencing, saves on transport and accommodation oops only meant to say well done on vid and got on a roll.
