  • I always admire the track record of Sir Bax.He got his cycle underway years after Vaughan Williams1st,yet gave us the seventh just 18 years later. Somewhere in the 1930's VW was infuenced by this man.A total role reversal. It took Ralph Vaughan Williams 48 years to amass his 9 works.5,8& 9 show Baxian penetration.6&7solidify the Sibelius teachings.

  • @Herman10able Please don't say that! The fact that I personally can't stand RK has nothing to do with. (Big fan of Gliere 3, but just can't stand RK). The fact is that Bax's orchestration derives mainly from the English tradition of Elgar and Delius, and from its "French connection" to Debussy and Raval. In fact, the old joke was that after studying in France for a year with Ravel, Ralph Vaughan Williams came back with a very serious case of impressionism. The Rusian side:Taneyev/Gliere3 maybe.

  • Bax is one of the greatest orchestrators, next to Rimski-Korsakov.

  • Bravo! Cheers from Brazil

  • This is a lovely work, wonderfully played by a great orchestra conducted by someone who was much undervalued (in my view) in his lifetime. Bax's music here lifts us into another spiritual world.

  • bax's music is a revelation to me. thank you.

  • Thank You so much for this collection! I'm over the moon!

  • This really lovely and moving.

    Thank you

  • That was wonderful - thank you.

  • Many thanks! Tod did much to revive the "lost" British composers such as Bax, Moeran and Bantock. I count myself lucky that I was alive at the same time as Handley and can now enjoy this beautiful music.
