The GoPro camera is great for getting first-person action shots in many situations, such as when I kayak. I decided I wanted to supplement this with some footage that shows me from outside the kayak. I took one of those floating tube toys, and a section of plastic pipe, and made an "X" to which I can affix the GoPro with it's "Vented Helmet Strap" mount.

I cut the float tube into three pieces. (1 long, 2 short)
Cut a small hole across the middle of the long piece. The pipe goes through here, then the small pieces go on the pipe. Make sure to get a pipe that fits snugly in the center hole of the float tube.
Put the straps of the camera mount around the long piece.

It's easy to put together quickly, so I can stash it on my kayak's deck in a collapsed state, then quickly deploy it to get the shot I want.

  • Why are you wearing a helmet? your not on a skateboard? your on a kayak.

  • @itouchez1 The surf can still flip you and pound your boat on top of you.

Also, it makes a good place to mount my GoPro, and keeps the sun glare out of my eyes.
