1914 or 2014, it seems like the future.

@gamesDAMNED - Hahaha - I just finished watching. That was the last line spoken, and I chuckled to myself and thought, "Great way to phrase that.". Then, before moving on, I noticed your comments.

@bluenail90 that'sbecause, as atrocious and horrific as wars were - it drew people together. ww2 vets would endlessly opine the 'good old days' because they remembered fond times. even i remember 911 fondly, as bad as it sounds, cos i remember everyone standing outside the shops and offices 'united as one' and everyone was talking about it and everyone seemed friendly as if we had all woken up from something. but then we went back to sleep again as instructed by the govts.

When I was a kid these days were known as 'the good old days'

@gamesDAMNED And I for one welcome our newer, cultureless, hook nose overlords! I will offer my services to rat out all those who oppose their benign rule.

who gave them the money to burn?
"The last generation of autocrats, actors in a pantomime of power." That's such a terrific line. It's fascinating to see the technological and cultural changes at the turn of the century, the rise of labor, the rise of equal rights. I wonder if the rulers of Europe saw war as a way of pacifying their populations, and quelling the dissent through mindless patriotism? The tragedy, of course, is that WWI spirals out of control and becomes a horrifying nightmare.
