Residents from 24 estates across Lewisham have grabbed a slice of £500,000 to make security, play provision and aesthetic improvements to communal buildings and gardens!
Launched in April 2008, Lewisham Homes Resident Led Programme was designed to give residents the chance to bid for money to fund a variety of projects from the installation of door entry systems to the landscaping of communal gardens. However, it was residents holding the purse strings as the decisions were made solely by tenants and leaseholders from the South and North Area Housing Panels. The North Area Housing Panel judged applications for the South and vice-versa. The winning projects were announced at the Lewisham Homes Open Day on 13 September.
There were 70 applications received, 53 of those were short listed based on the eligibility criteria. In total 24 projects will be receiving funding from the Programme and five projects from other Lewisham Homes budgets.
