I don't recall Tom Hoover being in Australia for this meeting. My recollection is Andrew Cowin won it with a 4.98 at 298mph, but I could be wrong.

I hate to say it but you are wrong. This was the 1995 Nationals Romeo Capitanio was winner in Funny-Car, Darren Carter (the guy hit from behind)was runner up. Tom "Showtime" Hoover won Top Fuel, Andrew Cowin couldn't have won it as Graeme Cowin was still driving the car at that time.

The car is a "Funny-Car". Drag racing has many different classes of cars, one of which is "Funny Car" or "F/C" so named because in the early days the cars were made from stock looking cars but the rear wheels were moved foward which made them look "funny". The term "funny car" was just away of describing the class these cars compeated in, it has since become the official name for the class.
