Damn right they knew how to fight. However, they weren't special operations light Infantry. Rangers are a regiment of commandos, while the Waffen SS was an entire military branch. But again, you're right, Germans in those days soldiered!

My husband is an Army ranger with the 3/75 out of Ft. Benning. Without actually being a Ranger, I'm as close to being an expert on them as anyone could be. He has been on 9 deployments and is both tabbed & scrolled.
