A behind the scenes look at this realistic animatronic cat replica. This particular cat was created in Simi Valley, CA by Animal Makers, Inc for the "cat boxer" scene in the 2001 movie "Scary Movie 2" with Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayons. This was a lot of fun to create and perform. You can see clips of the actual scene and the "making of" videos at http://videogallery.animalmakers.com.
Animal Makers has been creating animal replicas for movies, television shows, print advertisements and even military applications for over 25 years. Call us at 805-527-6200 if you want one made for your next project.
It's so cool seeing the inner workings of these things!

To make a skin you need a negative impression of a clay sculpture. The negative impression is known as a mold. Think of it like when you put your foot in wet sand. Your footprint that you leave behind is the negative copy. Once you make a mold, you cast a mixture in it so that you have a soft skin like replica of the original clay model. The skin can be latex, silicone or rubber. There are a few youtube videos and books out there that will help you learn more about the process.
