Max/MSP patch: http://www.box.net/shared/4zqt3sa4c4

Processing / Java MicroKontrol lib: http://github.com/michaelforrest/processing-korg-microkontrol

This is my minimal live setup - geared towards maximum sonic potential and malleability - that is - I can be completely in tune with whatever the audience is up for. I'm sequencing on Ableton rewired through Reason, and using a homebrew Max/MSP patch to turn my Korg MicroKontrol into a makeshift Electribe-style drum machine running a rack of Subtractors. I have a Faderfox LX2 to trigger loops and switch instrument channels. I keep my loops organised in the browser in Ableton by song - each song will have about 3 audio channels - drums, bass and one or more layers of miscellaneous 'musical' sounds. Then I have 5 MIDI parts that I build up as I'm playing. I've annotated the video anyway.

  • I've put links to the MAX/MSP patch and my new Processing library in the video description. The Max stuff is very dependent on having Live / Reason configured in certain ways, but it might be enough to get you started or give you some ideas.

  • Very cool. Would you be into sharing the MAX/MSP patch? I think it may be what i've been looking for. Thanks for posting this!

  • I sort of planned to but there's so much configuration in Reason and Ableton it started overlapping with a lot of stuff I wasn't so keen on sharing. I can put the patch up though if you want to do the work of adapting it to your own set up. I've actually abandoned Max/MSP for this stuff now - using Processing/Java instead..

  • How did you do the video taggin? It makes is so much easier to see/tell what you are doing.

  • It's the recently added 'annotate' feature - there's a big button by any videos you upload. It's done in Flash so you can edit it whenever you want, on any videos you've added.

  • Thanks for your response. I used to code in Java a lot. Loved it! So, have you abandoned Max for Java and have you ported the patch to Java? If so, would you be into sharing the source?
