February 2001
Porto Alegre - capital of Brazil's southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul - was once a run-of-the mill, dirty, Brazilian port city. With the fastest growing economy in Brazil, the state of Rio Grande do Sul attracts immigrants from many other poorer regions of the country who come in search of work and a better future. The state has a history of fierce independence, including a breakaway movement to form a separate nation.

@pierrequemin Education isn't a right. For one thing education doesn't equal school or college. You get educated through more things than just that.

Thanks for posting this video and allowing ordinary people to consider how their actions can create important change from the inside out.
The progress of efforts like this and making note of how they avoid interaction with the drug cartels would be very interesting as well.

Well done with this video, it seems to be still a long way to go, but it is undoubtly a good start! Brazil has so much potential, if you and I and WE just start demand seriously to fight corruption, social injustice and inequality, we will succeed. Peace and Love for all!
