The mystery surrounding the disappearance of 12 year-old King Edward V and his brother Richard, Duke of York has been the cause of speculation and fascination for over five centuries. In 1491, eight years after the Princes in the Tower were presumed murdered; a young man told an astonished world that he was Richard, back to claim the throne of England. Was this man Richard, Duke of York, or was he Perkin Warbeck, a brilliant imposter? There are many versions of what might have happened during his final interrogation in the Tower of London. This riveting drama presents one of them.

  • Saw this on TV once and loved it. As I am particularly interested in this era, does anyone know what this whole video is called and where I might be able to find it?

  • @JohnHistorian

There was no DNA testing - that wasn't around in 1933 and they haven't been touched since.

  • @AiriTokieda

... They certainly weren't killed by Henry Tudor - not because H.T. was such a nice guy - he really wasn't - but because Henry did not come up with a full story about how they were killed by Richard until 1502 when Tyrell supposedly confessed. And H.T. was afraid of "Perkin Warbeck" - had he killed them, he would have immediately come up with a credible lie about how Richard did it.

  • @AiriTokieda

Richard being portrayed as a monster is propaganda - he actually was a good man and could have been a great king if he had more time - but he still might have killed them. After all they disapperered in his life time and if they weren't released (unlikely) and died of natural causes (unlikely that BOTH would), they must have been killed by someone. They ....

  • Tudor propaganda. -_-; Why do people still believe Richard III killed the boys?

  • @JohnHistorian Yeah. Personally, I'm pro Richard III, so against the theory of him killing them, I believe that they were murdered by the house of lancaster's supporters (don't you just love the ambiguties of history? it's the only thing everyone in the world has an opinion about). I thought that they did do a DNA test because those bones got buried as Edward and richard. If you PM me i'm happy to discuss it further (does me good for my degree)

  • @Sweetlittlemystery

Thanks a lot. I still think the bones found in 1674 and studied in 1933 are of the boys. But wonder if Henry VII might have killed them but feel was most likely Richard the III. Hope they do the DNA test. That would prove a lot.

  • @Sweetlittlemystery

Thank you very much. But the bones discoverd in 1933 in the Tower showed they were of children. If Margaret had keep the boys til 1499 the bones would have been of two men in their 20s. Did Thomas More suspect any lind of conspiracy ?

  • @JohnHistorian he knew all he did. The role of Thomas more was really just to record as he was the key witness of the time (even if his records did go missing). The ending I think was ambiguous to highlight to the watcher that we indeed don't know what happened, but here are the different theories

    Hope that helps xx
