Trains of Thought is a series I have planned to run until the end of 2008. It will feature model and real trains, and include model railroad operation, train spotting, and more.

  • awesome video! ilove your friso switcher!

  • Yeah, it's one of my favorites. It is the only loco I have that has a Back-EMF decoder, and it's really great at slow slow speed switching. It's a great loco to put trainee operators on, or the kids when I let them have a run of some trains.

  • why dont you paint or ballast your turnouts?

  • I have ballasted the turnouts now (2008), although I haven't painted any of my track (ties or rails). I guess the reason I didn't paint the trackwork is that I didn't want it to look like I had painted it some time after the track was laid and ballasted.

  • Nice layout, hope to see lot more operation of your layout.

  • In this series I plan to feature some aspects of operation on my layout, particularly some switching of the various industries, operation of the RIP track, train meets, paperwork I use in operation, etc. Thanks for your comment.

  • There is also an add-on pack which can be downloaded from Microsoft. It is possible some of the effects are from that add-on pack.

  • Thank you, I will have to try that.

  • Thanks for your comment.

I chose to use what I would probably call 'elevator music' because I wanted people to concentrate on the actual layout rather than the music. The music is only to provide some sound in the background.

  • Microsoft Movie Maker II.

The "Stanford Film" logo was done in Gimp, then added into the movie.
