Your success for tradeshows involves 6 key steps:

1. Preparation: Invite the people you want to attend and auxiliary people. Train you staffing personnel what to look for and how to handle visitors. See 2-6 below.
2. Qualify: Separate the Looky-Lews from potential prospects. Look at name tags and ask what brought them to the show and to your display.
3. Hold off on Presenting: Don't be anxious to show what you have. Find out their story before you tell yours. Ask about what they currently use, what issues they're having, what could be better, what they'd love to have.
4. Listen: You can't learn if you're talking. You'll need this information to structure how you will fit what you have to their situation.
5. Network: This person may not be you target prospect, but may know that person or the person you should see. Ask that person to network you there. A name is not enough for you. You need an introduction. Tell them what to say to get you that meeting.
6. Get commitment that the person you've talked with will do something for you, i.e. a meeting, and/or an introduction. You've given energy. Now it's their turn. If they are unwilling, it means there is not enough interest, and you should back off to save yourself a lot of wasted time.
