ITUTU (2009)
Choreography: Karole Armitage
Music: Burkina Electric and Lukas Ligeti
Costumes: Peter Speliopoulos
Set: Philip Taaffe
Lighting: Clifton Taylor

Itutu is a collaboration between Armitage Gone! Dance, composer Lukas Ligeti and West African electronica band, Burkina Electric. This evening-long work is loosely inspired by the African metaphysical idea of a world without barriers, no Great Divide -- where dance and music are not separate art forms as in the West, where every dancer is a musician and every musician a dancer, where past and present, human and spirit intersect, nourish each other...and in the meeting, are "hotting the world up." In this vision of the world, dance allows the body to receive the spirit -- dance becomes the instrument of spiritual encounter.
