More Active Girls In Computing (MAGIC) seeks to increase women in Computer Sciences and Engineering through joining Middle School and High School girls with mentors. Community Balance's host, Suzanne Barnett, interviews Ira Pramanick, Ph.D., the founder and president of MAGIC, and mentors Pi-Chuan Chang, Ph. D. and Margot Miller about MAGIC and the mentoring experience. MAGIC was founded out of a suggestion made at the Grace Hopper Celebration 3 years ago and has since become a nationwide organization encouraging girls to learn computing and related fields. Initially, the organization was self funded, but recently the Google Foundation has provided a grant.
