KT Nelson speaks about her artistic process, finding inspiration in nature and collaborating with composer, Marcelo Zarvos. "There's some organizing principle, but there's chaos."

CHOREOGRAPHY KT Nelson | COMMISSIONED SCORE Marcelo Zarvos | MUSIC DIRECTOR René Mandel | MUSICIANS Franklyn D'Antonio (violin I), Richard Altenbach (violin II), Gianna Abondolo (cello), (violin), Joy Fellows (viola) and Marcelo Zarvos (piano) | LIGHT DESIGN Matthew Antaky

Inspired by the power of nature, suggestive of the winds of change, this full company work is a sweeping collaboration of sight and sound. Nelson reunites with acclaimed Brazilian pianist and composer Marcelo Zarvos in this world premiere. This is Nelson and Zarvos second collaboration—Zarvos also created the score for Nelsons celebrated work Stomp a Waltz (2006).

Marcelo Zarvos, who has written for virtually every medium — from dance to the concert stage to Academy-award nominated films to television and theater — has developed a new musical score for string quartet and piano inspired by Nelsons Grassland. The all-star chamber group includes Music Director René Mandel (violin), former Los Angeles Philharmonic cellist Gianna Abondolo (cello); Berkeley Symphony concertmaster Franklyn D'Antonio (violin); San Francisco Opera Orchestra violist Joy Fellows (viola); and Zarvos on piano. The group will perform live on March 12, 13 and 14th.
