@Aerotactics Yes, mostly. Back when I did this I played along with the song on my piano. I don't really know how to read sheet music (only like, the F-A-C-E / "Every Good Boy Does Fine" stuff), so I listened to the song, guessed the notes on piano, wrote them down on paper, and then put them in MPC. I did the same with "Gotta Go Fast" from Sonic X. That took longer since I really listened to every element in the song (except for the lead/rhythm guitar parts).
