This clip is a compilation of some of the many Tanglang free-fighting focused drills worked on at the Fifth International Mantis Boxing Seminar, hosted in the forest of Urle by Shifu Slawomir Milczarek of the Polish Praying Mantis Kungfu Society. Along with myself and the Polish family, the camp was attended by a large contingent from the Finnish Praying Mantis Kungfu Society. For most of those present, all drills were new and unfamiliar but everyone gave 100% and greatly impressed with their toughness and dedication. The majority of the drills shown are for developing skill at the basic and intermediate level (chuji and zhongji sanda) , with some advanced level free-fighting (gaoji sanda) method addressed, including the use of elbows. This kind of sanda is distinct from sports sanda and is trained for self defence as opposed to competition.

Eternal thanks to Slawomir Milczarek for hosting me again.

Note: In many instances throughout this clip fighters stand toe-to-toe, with very little, and in some cases no footwork at all. In those particular drills, both opponents are prevented from stepping in order to develop defences and evasive body method. The other drills have comparative restrictions.

  • praying mantis is great against an opponent of equal size and speed. Holds up really good against wing chun because it is very offensive however for me it didnt hold up to good against a bajiquan fighter. Their legs are so strong they're hard to trip with the praying mantis techniques. Baji fighters are extremely grounded, hit really hard, and fast. Its like fighting a boxer who has suddenly gone MMA.

  • @bajiprngmntsxingyi for me it's about the individual, not the style.

  • At first I was like "WTF is this shit???", but then I really, really liked it.

  • Respond to this video... Yeah some of it looks a bit strange out of context.

  • Shifu Tunks,

Love the way you train the responsive sparring with the student in the circle of attackers. We now use this in our school in Ohio, USA. Thanks for the great video!

  • @mooyingmantis Thanks. First step, defence only. Second, defend with single counter. Third, defend with combo counter.

  • I can't do that

  • I'd like to see this style vs wing chun.

  • @Tunks1

Makes sense, thanks for the further explanation!

  • Must be really tiring if your not in shape haha looks like a good cardiovascular workout also looks like it would heighten your ability to react quick on your feet
