News Report from a random night in 1966 from Columbus, Ohio's AM Radio Station WCOL. This is part of a 36 minute recording made on December 28, 1966. I taped it on a Webcor reel to reel recorder just to collect songs from the "Night Time Hitline." It just happened to survive being erased. This News Report is at 10:00 pm. that Wednesday night over 44 years ago. Steve Green

  • I was born on this night :)

  • Anybody remember WCOL personality Spook Beckman.....he was doing afternoon drive back in the late 70's when I first moved to Columbus. His studio had a street view at Broad and Younge which was more or less an alley. This was an era when radio still had personalities. Beckman was great, especially when doing live commercials. I was working in the ad business then and he did a lot of ad libbing over and above the standard commercial copy that really added some extra punch to a spot.

  • fabulous memories of columbus ohio

  • I heard these same songs on WFIL here in Philadelphia.

  • Thank you for recording this and posting it here. I'm inspired to dig up some of my old tapes from the 1990's. I used to record radio on VHS.

  • Gosh, broadcasters today are so lame. Paul Hogan's voice inflexions make the news sound so interesting and dramatic. Why can't broadcasters sound like this today?

  • Even since I moved to FL, I still think about Dr. Bop, Sonny Palmer, Bob Harrington, Wes Hopkins and others. I think Dave Hull was on WTVN & WVKO.

  • @MONTYMGMT No doubt about that. I grew up listening to WCOL during my teen years. Remember Dave Hull Hullabaloo?? Broke my heart when WCOL changed formats.

  • An hour earlier that night, I was watching Green Acres.

  • One of the greatest top 40 radio stations in the USA.
