there aren't films likes this anymore, this is the best meaning and recall of the word FRIENDSHIP. Not movies made better than this for the public and audience!

The movie is slow in parts, but really powerful because of Pacino and Hackman and the other players and some of the themes. A great road story full of talent and creativity.. I love both protagonists, but have a special place in my heart for Pacino's character, maybe because he's more vulnerable and humor is always a sure weapon.

@palmyrajo That is a powerful scene. I thought it really rang true and the Annie actress really did a great job playing the scene with lots of honesty. I think all the pent up rage she felt from his careless and cruel treatment of her came out there. Nevertheless you can see her vulnerability and that she did love him, and maybe still does a little, but she can't get over the reality and she stabs back in anger and tearful desperation.

this'll have a conflict when matthew reillys book 'Scarecrow' becomes a movie.

I saw this movie first at 15, wow..AL BABY and GENE BABY...abcdefg
I just bought the VHS on ebay for $3. :)
I recall a scene that I think is from this movie. AP is on a public phone with his wife/GF, holding a lamp (?) he brought for the baby. She tells him the baby died when she fell down the stairs because he wasn't there to help her. He flips out and Hackman yells into the phone "what did you say to him?!" Am I remembering the right film? I was a kid and it was a long time ago.
