This freedom activism event took place in San Diego, CA, at the County Tax Collector's office (http://sdtreastax.com). It was a protest in which the morality of taxation, specifically property taxes, was questioned.

A number of peaceful individuals supported Joe as he paid his property tax in $1 bills. This afforded him and others time to ask challenging questions of the San Diego County Tax Collector, Dan McAllister.

The idea was to bring to the government employees'--and public's--attention the coercive nature of government. According to one woman who has been working there for 10 years, she has never seen or heard of an event such as this. In other words, it seems that the vast majority of people who are extorted by government never take the time to point out the immorality and injustice to those who presume to govern them.

Joe's notes:
This protest was inspired by Ian Freeman (http://freekeene.com) who did two similar events in Keene, NH:

The language used was inspired by Wes Bertrand:

And the moral philosophy was inspired by Stefan Molyneux:

And here's the valuable thread about how to challenge those who presume to govern you and take your property without your consent:

bumper music of note was "Society" by Eddie Vedder, from the soundtrack of "Into The Wild."

  • I love how Dan turns into a teacher and talks to everyone like a group of kids.

  • Yup. I'm sure he's against unschooling too. ;)

  • Property is part of our life, how can life be taxed? How can we say we have a right to life, liberty and property if it can be taken away? How can you EVER own anything if you must pay a rental fee for it forever, otherwise they take it? Even if you finish paying it off, someone else STILL owns it cause you still pay! We as Americans have forgotten the thousands who have gone before us and fought wars for us to EEP our freedoms and our rights to life, liberty and property.

  • @FTLIan - This tax collector was a neighbor of mine growing up. Both of his parents were tax sucking public school teachers.

  • PROPERTY TAX WAS PLACED ON THE PEOPLE BY THE KING. WHEN WE BECAME FREE FROM KING GEORGE WE WHERE GIVEN AN ALODIAL TITLE TO THE LAND. SOME WHERE DOWN THE LINE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HIGHJACKED OUR NATURAL RIGHTS TO OWN PROPERTY. PERSONALLY, I THINK THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT SHOULD PAY THE TAX, OR BETTER YET THE HIDDEN PORTION OF EACH STATES CAFR FUND.. THE FOREIGN GOVERNMENT AGENDA IS TO TAKE EVERYONES PROPERTY! THEY CAN NOT ARREST US ALL.

  • @FTLIan notice not one human in the room spoke up in agreement with the sold out government prostitute Dan?

  • Every one of those sold out immoral sold out government whores have not humanity, they only seek to enrich themselves as parasites of humanity.

  • If the law is immoral its our moral duty to reject it.

  • that's so unfair for him to loudly jest the tax issue when surely, if he's clouded, then surely everyone else in line to pay are also. it's insane that even adults seek validation and justification this way when backed into a corner.A great display of mental behavior wrestling with animalistic instinct. are anger and frustration a direct link to the mindlessness of animal trait?

  • Look at it this way: if the 'services' imposed by the towns were anything people wanted, then they wouldn't have to put a gun to citizens' heads to get them to pay for these 'services'. The free market is a great test of the value of any service. Taxation creates false impression of value where there is none, because without the threat of force, no one would pay these taxes, as the services rendered are more often against individual rights than not.

  • This never gets old. Pointing out the gun in the room is so dam effective.
