Chillingly, according to 'lonely planet' website, during the cold war, the Soviet Union liked the look of this area so much, (as well as other heavy industry in the surrounding area) they placed the whole of Teesside SECOND on their list of nuclear targets in the U.K.

best place in the world teesside, i love it to bits. If your in Middlesbrough go to the eston hills you will get the best view of teesside from up there, i recommend going up there on a night time. Stunning place to see, the steal works, transporter bridge, teesmouth, its just teesside, its just MIDDLESBROUGH.

Yeah, Eston hills would be quite close to all the industry, so would be best vantage point, but also Carlton bank just outside of Stokesley on a night time, you get a panoramic view of the whole of Teesside!
