Rev. Barry W. Lynn, Americans United for Separation of Church and State joins Thom Hartmann. In "Everything You Know is Wrong" my expert guests challenge the conventional wisdom on the very things that most of us just assume to be "the truth" even though we've never really stopped to think about the real story behind the accepted norm. Last week - Republicans in the House of Representatives decided not to take up legislation to create jobs - and instead to take up legislation to re-affirm the motto of the United States as "In God We Trust." But is "In God We Trust" REALLY the national motto - at least the one that our Founding Fathers intended? If you think that is the case - then everything you know about our national motto might be wrong!

  • "In God We Trust" is not the national motto ... it's a remnant of the Cold War, when chicken hawks hijacked our nation and wrote that bullshit into various laws and onto our currency

  • the motto is "out of many, one"... people are ignorant.

  • The US Government's god is the god of this world, the chief evil spirit; the adversary of humanity; The Old Serpent, The Devil. They lie to enforce the deception about what they actually are: mindless greedy servants of their evil spirits. Those who falsely assume, Above the Law authority over others demand obedience to their commands; And by rules and constraints imposed and maintained by sheer brutal force, making all peoples of the world potential terrorists in their minds.

  • In Pot we trust !

  • @whatsupinthenews .. I responded to your claim that religion has given us hospitals, meal trucks, and more. I simply countered with the statement that religion is not necessary for people to do good things. Most everything else you've said was of little substance and since that seems to be the way you handle comments, I see no purpose in continuing this thread. Goodbye!

  • @schladmingman You say I like to argue (notice you argued as well), but you like to disrespect the religious beliefs of others & call their beliefs unnecessary & that is a very ugly character trait. My own facts? We never got to the bottom of anything to argue facts. If you don't want anyone to respond to you, then stop posting comments. I have no problem challenging you & your worldview.

  • @whatsupinthenews ... you like to argue and that is an ugly character trait. "No reply necessary" simply meant that I'm done with your noise. Think what you will. Believe what you will. It matters not. You can have your own opinions -- but you cannot have your own facts.

  • @schladmingman I have been at this too long. "No reply is necessary" is usually translated, "Dang he is right & I have no come back. Please don't let him reply". I will let you off the hook & swim back into the water.

  • @whatsupinthenews ... there's no insult-laden rant. Re-read your OWN post to see what arrogance looks like. No reply is necessary.

  • @schladmingman As I thought you would, you went on an insult laden rant against people who have faith in God. Now, check out how arrogant & self righteous you are b/c you painted MILLIONS of people as immature Boogey man believing people. Are you sure you want to go down that road? You tried the "what a mess religion makes of everything" card & got it played back in your face. Your arrogant response lets me know you can't defend that point because it is baseless, unfair & "so unnecessary".

  • @whatsupinthenews ... Yes. Really! You don't need mythology to support humanitarian causes. There ARE secular hospitals and charities. I agree, people can mess things up. But to really mess things up, put ideas in their heads that there's an invisible cosmic overlord out there who watches over them. Also, threaten them with eternal fire and torture unless they follow his commands. Oh, really! Aren't we a little old for The Boogey Man? You can do many great things without ancient myths!

  • @schladmingman Really? How about the religious hospitals, meal trucks feeding children/homeless/the poor, sending clothes-money & more to those who need them after hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis & helping countless others in various ways. I say to you, PEOPLE in general make a mess of things. Because the non-religious people have screwed things up as well. I guess the current financial crisis is religion driven. Consider what you are saying before you click the "post" button next time.
