Aureliano Pertile sings "Nerone"

Pertile recorded this aria in 1924, the same year that he created the title role in Arrigo Boito's enormous and spectacular opera "Nerone." This excerpt, "Queste ad un lido fatal," occurs at the beginning of the opera when Nero is burying the ashes of his mother (whom he murdered!) at the side of the Via Appia. At the end of the aria, he clearly proclaims "I am Orestes!"

This is some of Pertile's most exciting singing; his overwrought sound and muscular voice is perfect for portraying the neurotic and clearly unbalanced Nero.

@tenorschofield Thank you very much.I am also a big fan of Aureliano Pertile. I must say, that I am still a little surprised that he has been forgotten by some ,"so called lyrical critics". @Pertile23 Dear friend it is quite true; my father told me about him some years ago, and my first repertoire teacher.I have like 3 records of him, but never saw any comments honoring his talent. I am a big ,big fan of him, but never saw any film,is there any available from him?. Just read he was kind the neighbour of Giovanni Martinelli,is this true? my best regards.
