My cousins owned 2 beagles but they never did anything with them other than putting them in an outside cage which was too tiny for them. They would all yell at them for barking, and I constantly tried to tell them that they need to have activity. Sigh... some people just shouldn't be owners.

I love hound dogs, they're so rural. :D

I have a beagle and she was one of the best dogs I've known. She doesn't bark unless she's playing with our boston terrier. She is a good guard dog and alerts us when there are strangers near our house. Unfortunately, it's the fact that beagles are forgiving and kind and that's why they are used as test dogs :(

I used to have a Beagle around seven years ago, who was a bit different. She didn’t quite have the physique and temperament of a typical Beagle. She was just a little taller, lighter, and had a little less loose skin. In my opinion, it made her look nicer. As far as temperament, she was quiet, not too interested in fallowing her nose, quite loyal, and highly trainable for a Beagle. But unfortunately, when I traveled back to California, my mom, who HATED dogs at that time, gave her up!

Beagles are the best! I don't know why they get such a bad rap. They're playful, friendly,and good with children. My beagle even plays with the cat! They CAN be stubborn, but with adequate training, regular excercise, and a lot of LOVE they are excellent companions!! The more Beagles, the better!

@HiveDes I also have a treeing Walker. You're right - big beagles! Like beagles you can get then to do anything with food. Most scent hounds are the ultimate "will work for food" dogs.
