EAB Tree Removal

http://www.mda.state.mn.us The first Minnesota ash trees infested with emerald ash borer (EAB) are coming down. After the Minnesota Department of Agriculture surveyed trees in the St. Paul neighborhood where EAB was first discovered, City of St. Paul workers began removing about 60 trees on public and private property. These trees are the worst of the worst, with visual signs of beetle infestation.

By cutting down the trees, MDA officials are hoping to take a big chuck of beetles out of the population. But officials caution, this isnt going to eradicate anything. Theres still going to be beetles that are in the neighborhood. This will help knock back the numbers that are present.

This isnt a job homeowners should tackle on their own. All the trees coming down are processed on site, chipped up into very small pieces and then shipped off to be burned. That way no beetles can be moved to a new area. And soon the adult ash borers will emerge from inside the trees, meaning tree removal will have to stop until fall.
