  • @Crimsonwindsamurai Clearly, you know little about sword fighting. I do sword fighting like these guys in Portugal and i assure you, one of the most important factors in knights are the shield. Then comes the armor. Knights were excellent in medieval times.

Samurai's, first, there weren't many. Since Samurai were referred to as warlords. Their blades were of fine work. Enough to be compared to top quality European swords. But their armor was bad by using chainmail or scale most of the time.

  • @Z0tteltier : What I meant to say was "As armor increased, the length of swords increased, and there were less knights with shields because they did not need them as much. A knight in plate would be less likely to have a shield than one in maile.

  • @Halofreakanoid You said "As armor and weapon length increased, there was no practical use for a shield. " Maybe I didnt get your point.

  • @Z0tteltier : I never said anything about length of weapon in proportion to shield. I said type of weapon based off how heavily armored. And I was specifically talking about swords, and knights as well.

  • @Halofreakanoid The length of a weapon has little influence on the importance of a shield. Think about the phalanxe. They used spears together with shields. Long weapons like spears were the most common weapon in ancient and early medieval times and you cant imagine a viking or a greek fighter without a shield. Too high Weapon-weight, ranged weapons and the need for 2handed weapons (to penetrate the armor) made the shield unnecassary at least on battlefields). Modern Police still uses shields.

  • @XxXDarkDrakeXxX While the shield is a very useful part of the knights armor for close quarter or mounted combat, the armor was still the more important than the shield as many nights went into combat with two handed weapons when dismounted so that they could penetrate armor

Also, there were lots of Samurai. Dozens would die in each battle and they were about equal in numbers to what England fielded in Knights. The standard common soldiers were Ashigaru, and they used a variety of weaponry

  • @XxXDarkDrakeXxX : Actually the metal the japanese used was quite inferior to European metal. Though I disagree with you about the shield. As armor and weapon length increased, there was no practical use for a shield.

  • U guys have good armor, so dont arfaid to blow with full strenght and speed.

By now it looks like pussyfight.

  • that looks fun
