  • A right hand drive vett , a song about Ford cobra must be in the UK

  • This is actually in Australia.

I am guessing that there were not many Cobra's around in Australia in the early 60's,to make

this song with,....but they found a Corvette.

  • @leerider52 who ever is singing this song sucks! But I'd love to get my hands on that right hand drive Vette!!!

  • The correct color is Ford blue.

  • @lyon406 Aw, man, it's too bad you didn't get to talk to the owner--it sounds like the 260 is the rarest of the three versions. I was at the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum a few years ago, and if I remember correctly, they had one of the 427 Cobras there at the time, but with the hood closed. A while back I built the MPC 1:18 scale model of this car and the box photos had the dual-quad 427's engine block painted white---do you know if this is correct for that engine?

  • AC Cobra used a 6 cylinder engine, very weak. They contacted Ford to use their V8 engine. Shelby got wind of this and bought up the existing cars, however as I was told by an owner of three Cobras,( an AC, a 289 shelby and one of 5 full race Mark V's), some of the 260 Cobras were sold. I saw one two years ago at a car show. It had the generator and painted valve covers and AC emblems. My friend and I sood around for 2 hours waiting for the owner, but he never showed.

  • @lyon406 I knew about the 289 and 427-engined Cobras, but not the 260 one. What was it? As I understand it, Carroll Shelby took the British AC Ace and re-engined it via Ford. He went to Chevrolet for engines first, but GM was still honoring the AMA ban on factory racing and refused to supply him with any. Ford, however, gave him access like you said. The Cobra was a great racer, but still should have been in C-Modified because it wasn't running its original factory engine.

  • @galoon The Cobra was derived from the AC Cobra production car and used the factory frame and most of the body panels. AC Cobra, 260 Cobra(extremely rare), 289 Cobra/Shelby, Shelby Cobra then the 427 Cobra.

  • Ford Cobra, Pantera and the sunbeam tiger. Hell Yeah.

  • Yeah, and there were only about 900 Cobras in the world--so there weren't many of them around anywhere! They beat the Corvettes in races because the SCCA had the Cobra racing in the wrong class--it was basically a racing car rather than a production sports car--they should have been in the "C-Modified" category. Thanks for putting up this video--never heard this version of the song before!

  • Me neither--I bet a right-hand drive Sting Ray is an expensive rarity today!

  • I'm with northzzzzz . This is great and fun to see an Aussie version of a song from that era. Oh yeah, the Vette is great; never saw one with the steering wheel on the right. Super!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!!
