Even though lightning happens both ways (with one stroke and a return stroke completing the circuit), it can happen in reverse order, like this bolt. Normally, the negative charge is on the storm base and positive charge on the ground, making the bolt appear to come from the cloud (as the first stroke comes down from the cloud and the return stroke comes from the ground and meets it). Sometimes the charges and strokes can occur in opposite order, making the bolt seem to come from the ground.
