Are there bad teachers? The only bad teacher is one that would be hateful to one of these kids. Bad teachers are hateful by crushing dreams. Saying things like, "You're never going to make it..." The hateful teacher might get bonuses from TAP and every other program, but the new teacher with the heart might get brushed aside. Too many programs hurt the teachers. We have to trust them to do their jobs. Teachers could have been lawyers. No one becomes a teacher for the pay.
@sfrey25 guess theres no respect at the end of the day when they bought in that anti smacking compaigne, students these days have potential rights to threaten their teachers, they should bring back the corporate punishment to discipline kids, students doin't get anywhere like that. they need to grow up, know whats right and wrong.
@sondraowens007 I would love to use this video in my at risk presentation but I am having a hard time figuring out how to place it on my powerpoint so that I can show the video...any ideas?
We need to know what high school students are thinking about education. If you're in high school and make a movie or write an essay discussing education, what works, what doesn't and solutions, you could win $1,000 from the non-profit, Transitions to Complete Education. Check out: t2ce.org for the student perspective contest.
We need to get the high school perspective out there for others to see.
First of all I would get rid of all the bureaucracy out of education including the teachers union. That way good teachers who do well would have more of a chance and bad teachers who don't like thier jobs can get fired they'll be no such thing as tenure. I would also let the students give thier teachers report cards as well so they would also have a voice in what goes on in the classroom and not just the administrators.
It is one thing to recognize a crisis, but again I challenge you, what will you do to change it? If you see a problem and only point it out, how does that help? I personally think it is a gross generalization to put ALL schools into some sort of Naziesque metaphor for a genocide on creativity. Are there bad teachers? Sure! Are there great teachers that inspire students to create and achieve things that they didn't know that they could do? Every day! Create solutions not observations.
