http://historyofpainters.com The Gothic period was tremendously culturally productive, in painting, sculpture, architecture and illuminated manuscripts. These art-works are complex, fraught with religious fervor and symbolism. Biblical stories were told and retold continuously--painted, sermonized, allegorized, embellished, creating a convincing and mysterious belief system.

  • what would be a good way to learn about art? and attend exhibits?

  • @hereHehereHE

Join your local museum. They often have free lectures and docent tours for members. You can also go to local galleries and attend their openings. Also take a art history course at a college.

  • ps: can bosch be considered a gothic painter???

  • some stuff you show is not from the middle age

  • this really made me think more about the media and stuff like that because it can really change the meaning . now that i have seen this i wouldnt call my-self a (Goth) its nothing personal like dissrespecting its just im not really into Religion its not my sort of thing my family are christions and that just comes to show that I have my own state of mind because i dont have a religion maybe because i have A......form of Autism but mine is calles ( Asperger specturm disorder ) ..so anyway thanks.

  • Just one request. Since the 2 Artists usually spoken of in this conversation would be Cimabue and Giotto. Would it be possible to attribute the works and their names? If not, thats fine too. It is just helpful since Giotto studied under Cimabue, which makes a lot of their works similar. Great work and historical perspective! I especially enjoyed the tour of The Forum. I had forgotten some of the structures since my last visit.

  • Yea totally brilliant. It explains alot in very few words. Thank you for helpin me out cuz i needed something that would help me understand this type of art for my history of art class.
