This song was sung by Emily Blunt in Stephen Poliakoff's television drama Gideon's Daughter. It's a haunting, brilliant performance and I think Emily Blunt perhaps the most under-rated singer, musician and actress in the country. Gideon's Daughter is a BBC drama, one of their finest.

(NOT Selena) lauren: Stupid question: Is this actually Emily Blunt singing, or has the voice been dubbed? Have loved her as an actress for quite awhile, but am certain saw an interview with her, where she stated she "could barely carry a tune".

No, that's simply wrong. She is an excellent alto singer and a Grade 8 cellist. The guitarist who accompanied her on this clip has commented here. She has been a backing singer on some other people's tracks too but I can't remember the details.

Check it out on the Internet Movie Database (imdb dot com). It's available on DVD. You can buy it or rent it from Love Film. If I had to say what it was about I would say disillusionment with Margaret Thatcher's 'me' society. If you like films for grown-ups like 'Remains of the Day' or 'The Last Picture Show' or 'Brokeback Mountain' you'll love it.

Now word has it that she could be playing The Baker's Wife in Rob Marshall's Into the Woods, yay or nay?

Love the end of the song where her stoic expression turns into that suprised yet beautiful expression.
