Chris Malone performs his spoken word poem "Letter To A Lost Lover."
(big thanks to my boys Charles Ramsey and Anthony Smith for the support)

Addressed to a lost lover
Maybe ill see you again someday,

Im afraid somewhere along our dismal path I dreamt a dream too deep for you to follow
Left pieces of my bread crumbled heart too large for you to carry
Placed one too many expectations on your fragile back
How dare I ask you to bend it for me
Even if it was only for a moment
I must have kissed you with one too many 'I love yous'
Exceeded one too many of your expectations
my endless love for you
grew
overrated

and somewhere along the line I apparently crossed the border
ventured into the unknown areas of your heart on a refugee rescue mission
uncovered untold truths so shockingly painful
that it wud make a grown man break down and buckle beneath his kneecaps
and I waited
while holding on to crushed dreams, I stayed searching for that girl I fell in love with
I searched with an ambiguous direction, and a forgotten soul
that was lost through decades of misled emotions

stayed up one too many nights telling myself I will not cry because of you
I will not cry
because of u
because of you
I am who I am
so I don't dare look myself in the mirror anymore
because the truth
is one ugly
reflection, Samia,
Even your name means the exalted, the most high
And I treated you as if you were my child by
spoiling you with love and attention that you could only begin to appreciate later on in life
once time decayed long enough
like our fossilized memories and the dusty dried out fragments of my shattered soul
I should have known
Gracing me with your presence was a gift
of time
Meant
to be cherished
And I was just replaceable

So instead,
I conceal the remains of my dismantled spirit in the depths of my mind
because most people won't bother to look for it there
and when they finally find me
broken and brittle like my grandmothers frail little fingers
they won't dare search deep enough to notice me
and ill keep those fossilized memories
as proof
of our existance

  • Everyone of your poems has become my favorite poem. Do the damn thing! Can't wait for you to post more!

  • It's only the compromise of contemporary physicality.. that brings me hesitation. Perhaps, it is better that words are read with authors imagined. Those seen fall into the rhetoric of image. Loved the words... hated fighting the image and movement of a place, time, gender, and 'youth culture' - especially when they speak beyond all that short n now...

  • whats ur fb & twitter... add me @nvlicious
