This is what we are having for dinner tonight. :)
Why use hamburger helper when you can make something similar from scratch? (that tastes better too)
I do use prepared beef bouillon and Bisto gravy thickener, so it is not entirely from scratch, but pretty darn close.

1 lb ground beef
1 egg beaten together with 1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup bread crumbs

Mix above ingredients well and form into meatballs, the size is up to you. I usually get about 30 1" meatballs from a pound.

Place meatball in skillet (grease skillet with butter if the meat is very lean) and brown slightly (about 5 minutes) over medium high heat.
Add 4 cups of beef bouillon and bring to a boil. Stir in the veggies you want, I used one cut up potato and 2 cups of frozen veggies.
Simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes until the veggies and meatballs are cooked through.
Add some gravy thickener. I use Bisto brand beef gravy mix (powder mixed with water) until thick enough. You could use a little corn starch mixed with water to thicken as well.
Stir until well blended and thickened.

Serve on its own or over noodles or rice.

  • beef bouillon is that like beef broth?? can i add any kind of gravy??

  • @vidgirl4444 Yes beef bouillon = beef broth. You can use whatever gravy you want in this.

  • oh that looks good. I love that you show us what you are cooking for dinner, I am encouraged to cook more at home.

  • I figure if I have to cook dinner, might as well tape it and get a a video out of it! Hubby likes it because I try new dishes and he likes my cooking. :)
