characters in the movie since he is not influenced by the prejudice of his society during this time period. I apologize for this wall of text and the backwards order of these responses, but I do hope this may give you a new perspective on the movie and help you to enjoy it :)

house, being served dinner by her white maid. The scene with the black panther party was meant to show the fallacy of prejudice, since Forrest had served in Vietnam and risked his life for his black friend, the one panther's incessant lecturing about Forrest's involvement in the oppression of African Americans is complete nonsense. All in all, the point of these types of scenes in the movie is to show that although Forrest has his mental handicap, he was actually smarter than most other...

In Vietnam, Forrest risks his life multiple times running back to the field to find his dear friend Bubba, who has been injured in combat. He finds his friend on the ground and carries him to safety, where he dies almost immediately. Upon returning home from Vietnam, Forrest decides to open a shrimping business in honor of Bubba. He eventually makes millions of the business and sends a check to Bubba's family. When his mother receives this money, the movie cuts to a scene of her in a brand new...

He goes on to explain that his mother had given him that name as a reminder that, "we all do things we don't understand sometimes." As the film progresses we see Forrest in college, where he witnesses George Wallace's Stand in the Schoolhouse Door, where he once again demonstrates his ignorance of the racial tension of the time period. When he enlists in the army and is sent to Vietnam, he is quick to become best friends with "Bubba" since he has no pre-existing prejudice toward others.

Maybe you haven't watched the whole movie. I can certainly see how one may have this opinion without taking the full context of the film into account. Throughout the movie, Forrest repeatedly demonstrates a complete ignorance of the concept of racism. In one of the first scenes at the bus stop, Forrest mentions that he got his name from a relative who apparently was a founding member of the KKK, a group which Forrest only understands to be a "club who would gather and wear funny hoods."...
