Made in the tradition of such true-life political thrillers as MALCOLM X and JFK, Raoul Peck's award-winning LUMUMBA is a gripping epic that dramatizes for the first time the rise and fall of legendary African leader Patrice Lumumba. When the Congo declared its independence from Belgium in 1960, the 36-year-old, self-educated Lumumba became the first Prime Minister of the newly independent state. Called "the politico of the bush" by journalists of the day, he became a lightning rod of Cold War politics as his vision of a united Africa gained him powerful enemies in Belgium and the U.S. Lumumba would last just months in office before being brutally assassinated. Strikingly photographed in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Belgium as civil war once again raged in the Congo, the film vividly re-creates the shocking events behind the birth of the country that became Zaire during the reign of Lumumba's former friend and eventual nemesis, Joseph Mobutu. This version features the film with its original French dialogue and English subtitles.

  • A TRUE REVOLUTIONARY

  • @skentelo you again.

The united states are from NORTH AMERICA. The AMÉRICA continent IS MORE than just United states.

I don't think God hates united states (people) neither... but to devil sure likes (from usa) his imperialism disguised of false freedom.

    ¡HASTA LA VICTORIA SIEMPRE!

  • It seems to me from all of these comments that we are letting the United States off the hook. They played a major part in this atrocity and continue to do so around the world till date. The self-proclaimed free world. So much by giving Mobutu legitimacy over a man elected DEMOCRATICALLY . Perhaps it's time they kept their MTV, CNN, etc. Oh, and their cigs too! Next time CNN brings a Belgian analyst as an expert on Congo, I will put a baton through the screen. VIVA LUMUMBA!!! GOD HATES america!!

  • @MrsD7777 Yeah I definitely don't want to see Jaimie in a biopic again. One was enough!!! Idris Elba was right Hollywood acts as if black people don't really have a place there. But at the same time it's the black entrepreneurs who aren't using their money and celebrity to promote black independent film directors. That's why there's a lack of roles for the actors. But it's mostly do with ignorance on the casting director's part.

  • @Bonitaymorena *lol* Well i do have to agree with U about Hollyweird being so narrow minded when it comes to NEW talent among black actors. Denzel has played in too many millions of roles (although excellent ones), and I did see a few gray hairs on Djimon too, but picturing Jamie with an african accent will only make me ROTFL! I'm sure there are plenty of "unknown" black actors/actresses with exceptional acting skills yet to be discovered, and also worthy of an Oscar Nomination at least! :)

  • @MrsD7777 Noo god nooo not Denzel or Jamie!!!!! I"m tired of Holly wood acting as if only a certain number of black actors can be at the top while people who are better actors but not as well-known aren't getting the lead roles they deserve!!! Djimon yes maybe but he might be too old let some from the afro-french cinema scene have a chance. I'm sure there's a few who speak english fluently. I still say Eriq Ebouney killed it though!! He's pretty fit for an older man. ;)

  • @Elvizzzzz Why the hell would they get an African American to play the role of someone who's clearly African?? Sorry but this isn't the early 2000s Hollywood needs to stop being ignorant and acting as if they are no African actors!!! It's so condescending!!! I don't want to have to sit through the movie and cringe at hearing him do the accents!! Only Don Cheadle and Forrest Whitaker are good an portraying different characters and seem realistic but they don't need to be in this film.

  • I saw this movie years ago on the french television network in here in Canada but I started watching it in the middle. I really wanted to see the whole film, and I'm glad I found it on youtube.
