@smegmalfog well, i think he was whinin about (most) metal and the satanic-evil posturing that comes with it. I myself tend to draw a line between heavy music with a purpose, and the one that's just made out of macho-tripping metalhead shit. For example, early Napalm Death were heavy as hell, but i never seen them as 'dumb heavy music' since they were moved by an extremely strong emotional urge (as well as a clear political agenda), but then lost it and became just another heavy band.

@BirsaGomorraBeach what a pretentious asshole... I love early swans but this guy spouts so much holier-than-thou bullshit in interviews. there was absolutely nothing wrong with the previous person's comment about this being the heaviest music in 1984... maybe the "dumb heavy music thing" gira is whining about is also a search for an "ecstatic experience" even if he is too full of himself to see that. I've learned that just because someone makes cool music doesn't mean they are cool people

God I love Industrial music, I fell in love with Trent Reznor (my favorite), and that appreciation has caused me to branch out into the various other veins and breeds of the industrial influence: Coil, Throbbing Gristle, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, they're all good and unique: Reznor, Jourgensen being a combo of synth and classic rock/metal influence, SP goth and synth, TG and Coil synth and experimental, and now Swans, hell I love all of it!!! =D

I like the way the itunes bit tries to sell you the wrong song :D

Some of the greatest music ever, even if listening to it does feel like being bludgeoned in the face repeatedly with a tire iron.

@HammarHeart not post- punk at all, or prog rock really either. what i got out of it was this ambient and expiremental folk-y music. something you wouldn't really expect to come out this time period, but hey that's swans for you. they are basically anti-music...music. hahah. @RockWillLiveOn- dude it's one thing to have an opinion but it's another to say this is horrible crap and question who would sign this band after only hearing two songs by them. you come of as incredibly ignorant that way..
-
@RockWillLiveOn I doubt they'll be playing much of anything from their industrial/no-wave era... they just came out with a new album, and it sounds vastly different from the stuff you're listening to on this video (and the live video, which I assume is from the Public Castration live recording)... It's more like post-punk/prog rock type stuff (I guess)

@HammarHeart *Continued* I actually recently heard of Swans for the first time after a rumour taht they may be openers for a Canadian band called "Danko Jones". I am going to see them live (big fan!) but researched Swans, and part of what made me mad (and resulted in my initial angry post) was that these two bands are totally unrelated in so many ways, and if these guys are opening, i'll be in no rush to get to the venue

I second that "oh yeah". This period of Swans was so goddamn raw. I go into traces listening to this album. I think many do. it inspires such.
