One of my weird little projects is to make abstract paintings off of Sega Genesis video game screens. I'll guide you through my patented chuckpaintings.com process as I make "Digital Mermaid", one of my favorite pieces to date.

  • Haha, cheating IS awesome. That's why all those famous painters got famous, they stole as much cool stuff as they could from elsewhere. Like staring out over a field by a forest's edge at autumn and copying the colors, from deep blue to cyan to oranges, yellows and reds. That's how art works. Good job on this piece, by the way.

  • @Roxfox Thanks! (a year later)

  • if u was gonna paint a mermaid, y not git a nekkid model fool? lolololol

  • my roommate scared her off

  • -I wouldn't say it's cheating. By that logic all art is cheating, because your trying to recreate a moment or idea.

-In fact your method of "rolling with the mistakes to make something new" is MORE honest because you admit it's not representational of the original.

-Rather than other people who will fight tooth and nail to convince you their art accurately represents something real

Oh, you should really think about some sort of camera setup, where you can see the whole canvas at all times. that would make these perfect.
