You know the history of the area and why its flooded? That area used to be old down town hilo. Buildings and stores until the tsunami wiped it out. They turned it into a park, no buildings allowed. Its a tsunami buffer zone. They could care less if it floods, its meant to flood in that area. No one gets mad that you hang there. We used to sand slide in that park when if floods like that. Enjoy!

Hilo is the wettest city in the USA. This shows the results sometimes.
This bayfront area that's flooded in this video used to be completely developed. Damage from tsunami waves in 1946 and 1960 was so extensive that all the land was condemned, cleared, and turned into a park. At times of flooding, as seen here, the entire area serves as a temporary flood catchment zone. But it once had stores, homes, theaters, restaurants; now, all gone.

Hi, Yes I do live in Hilo, that was a very rare flood and probably only happens once every 10 years or so. Moving into town in july? Look me up when you get here.
