Phil's (from memory) arrangement of the Duke Ellington/Bubber Miley tune 'East St Louis Toodle-oo'. Some may remember this tune from the 1974 album 'Pretzel Logic' by Steely Dan - clearly a platter George W Bush never listened to! In an update to an older (deleted) video, Phil was asked to demonstrate the relative merits of the excellent, low-budget Taylor 114. See what you think.

  • Mr Phil...I recently asked you about the sound quality of a Martin. What about this 114? Is it good?

  • The video may give you a clue, but in reality you are better off getting a totally solid wood guitar. These 114's are OK but a bit lightweight in the durability stakes and with more treble than bass response.

    Cheers

    Phil

  • @philhare thank you for this response. You may have steered me away from the 114. What would you recommend as and alternative or a level up from the 114?

  • @mafew129 Hello, you could try the Larrivee OM/03. You can pick them up for around £5-600 new these days. See my other video!

    Cheers

  • @mafew129 the 114 is a great guitar but if your not sure on it i suggest you go to a music store and test out a few others (try breedloves, martins, and other taylor models) and see what sounds best to you and what feels the best in your hands.

  • @rokkerdude8 I agree totally. I normally play a Santa Cruz Om/PW. I was just testing this thing out for a friend. Cheers Phil
