GEORGES SEURAT

Die SCHIRN widmet dem Begründer des Pointillismus erstmals seit rund 30 Jahren eine repräsentative Ausstellung in Deutschland. Georges Seurat (1859-1891) gilt als Ikone der bildenden Kunst des 19. Jahrhunderts und zählt neben Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh und Paul Gauguin zu den wichtigsten Wegbereitern der Kunst der Moderne. In der Auseinandersetzung mit den Bildern der Impressionisten und den neuesten naturwissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen der
Physiologie und der Farbtheorie entwickelte Seurat jene Malweise, die als Pointillismus in die Kunstgeschichte einging und späteren Kunstschaffenden zu einer wichtigen Inspirationsquelle wurde. In kleinen akribisch und dicht nebeneinandergesetzten Punkten tupfte der französische Maler die Farbe mit dem Pinsel auf die Leinwand. Der Gesamtfarbeindruck eines Gemäldes
sollte sich so erst im Auge des Betrachters aus einer gewissen Entfernung als optische Mischung zusammensetzen. Der Neoimpressionist Seurat überwand mit dieser neuen Technik und Bildauffassung die impressionistische Malweise, bei der die Wirklichkeit als spontaner und individu eller Sinneseindruck auf die Leinwand gebracht wurde. Seine Reduktion der Pinselstriche auf Punkte, die eine nahezu rasterartige Gleichmäßigkeit zeigen, werden nicht mehr als Momentaufnahme, sondern als wohldurchdachte Komposition verstanden.
Mit rund 60 Gemälden, Ölstudien und Zeichnungen aus öffentlichen und privaten Sammlungen u. a. aus London, Paris, Zürich, New York und San Francisco zeigt die SCHIRN das bedeutende Oeuvre des Künstlers.

The SCHIRN becomes the first German museum in almost 30 years to devote a major exhibition to the founder of Pointillism. Georges Seurat (1859-1891) is now revered as one of the icons of 19th-century art, paving the way to the Modern along with Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. Engaging with the paintings of the Impressionists and contemporary scientific discoveries of colour theory, Seurat developed a painting technique that became famous as Pointillism, an important source of inspiration for later artists. Seurat composed his works meticulously by dotting small spots of paint onto the canvas with his brush. From a distance, the viewers eye then blends together the paintings overall colour impression. Using this technique, Seurat thus moved beyond the impressionist style of painting in which reality is transferred to the canvas as a spontaneous, individual sensation. His brushstrokes, reduced to dots with an almost grid-like regularity, are no longer perceived as a snapshot but as a well thought-out composition.
With around 60 paintings, oil studies and drawings from public and private collections in London, Paris, Zurich, New York and San Francisco, the SCHIRN has the honour of showing some of the most significant aspects of Seurats oeuvre.

Mein Lieblingsgemälde ist "Die Klippe" "Le Bec du Hoc" bei Grandcamp.

Ich finde das Video und die Ausstellung sehr schön gemacht. Ich mag die dunkelblaue Wand, mit dem goldenen Rahmen.

Leider wohne ich nicht in der nähe von Frankfurt. Also werde ich sie nicht sehen können!
