  • Firstly, ihave got to say a massive thanks for posting this because this has helped me heaps for my english coursework.

Secondly, the accent you have used for the monologue is amazing! It totally fits the tone of the play itself.

You say that you made this because you were bored but I think you really need to think about acting and storytelling as a serious career choice!

    Keep it up man!

  • You are too kind. I'm just glad to have helped in any small way with your English coursework, cheers!

  • I don't mean any offense here...

what sounds like a birmingham accent does not do this, I am not entirely sure my lancashire accent does it any justice but I find this painfully slow and depressive!

  • Hi there, no offence taken. I've watched other video's made by people from the Midlands, and they get the same kind of reaction. Though it is intriguing to note the reacion only comes if they are not behaving stupidly, or talking about inane and stupid things. Maybe people feel better hearing the Midlands accent when it is associated with depressing dullards of lowerintelligence.

  • lol u got to admit... at least when you read it, you got your sensible head... so you deserve that credit... when i read it (for a performance in march) it sounds like peter kay so it's a bit too light... hense i say i don't think i do it any justice...

I don't associate midland accents by bad things... a guy from wolves does George Formby songs and sounds great in his strong accent so they are good for delightful things!!

  • Are you on about Mark Williams doing his George Formby? He puuts on a Lancashire accent for that! I appreciate what your saying, reading it in to breezy a fashion would be wrong, and my depressing voice is clearly upsetting peoples sensibilities! But i will say in my defence, it was raining and i was skint, so out of boredom i attempted to read some Alan Bennet and stick them up on youtube. I really have no illusions of being an orator.

  • worst accent to listen to haha

  • thank you so much listening to it is so much easier then reading it :)

  • NEEDED IT, AND FOUND IT!

    THANKS A TON!

  • Where's the one about the paedophile? That was brilliant. Depressing, but played so well.

  • I like it!

My favourite Alan Bennett monologue - interesting to see it done in that accent - shows that the material is translatable - great stuff... and well realised too.

    :)

    Neil.
