Actually to me it's not the least bit disgusting. Sorry I can't get it to focus properly.
I'm just cutting the dead skin from my left thumb using the mini scissors from a Swiss Army Classic Pocket Knife (a very useful knife is in fact an understatement). Have no left thumb print for close to 1.5 year. I got this corn due to OCD. -.-
By cutting the dead skin, the new skin can grow faster. In fact, if you have eczema and are adept with the knife, you can scrap dead skin off with light pressure - more efficient than cutting and less painful than peeling.
I am not a doctor so this is not medical advice. Just my personal opinion.
It didn't seem infected though. It's just like the skin there feels injured and tender so it grows extra hard skin as a protection. I have not visited a doctor but I suppose the proper treatment would be to sand the hard skin off (just keeps growing back) and apply moisturiser (which I do not do religiously). Been over a year.
