I saw Elton, the first time, one week before this song was released. He sang this, and "Daniel," which wasn't released for another 3 or 4 months.

How does his costume have anything to do with him being gay. Maybe it shows that he is flamboyant, expressive, humorous,and fabulous. I've seen much more flamboyant displays from straight men. Prince is one example.
