Tour of Fort Devens in 1993, with emphasis on the former ASA buildings, before old barracks were torn down. Some 2006 footage of the last remnants of wooden barracks being torn down on the south end of the base. Today, the old 2nd Bn area is TOTALLY redeveloped with modern high industrial. The upper post area is a modern shopping center with restaurant and classy motel. I was a clerk at Con 4 Mess until I went to IBM Course at USASATC&S. SEE VIDEOS OF VINT HILL FARMS AND FORT ORD. There were 3847 views of this video since Dec 2006 on Google, until Google transferred all the videos to YouTube.

  • G Company was all female in 1974. In the newer Quad set ups. In 1975 all morse training related MOS's began training at Correy Station in Pensacola through the Navy. Some of the old barracks were used in the first half of the 70's for upper morse training once past like 6 gpm. I hated that march over there. I think the Army retained training of all branches for maintenance fields.

  • @Rhiahl Tell me the new quad set up. In the 60s, when facing the barracks from the parking lot near the PX, C Co was on the left, and B Co was on the right, a A Co was beyond B Co. Beyond C Co there were two concrete barracks... Personnel/Admin and their barracks. What were they in the 70s?

  • @AlanHemenway There were two set ups of three buildings, one on the left, middle and right. In the one I was in it was if facing the buildings Echo on the left, Foxtrot in the middle (they upstairs right of that company was females) and Golf on the right. I know the other quad had Delta, Charlie and Bravo I think. Not sure where Alpha company was. I was born at Devens in 1956, Dad was ASA too. Where else were you stationed?

  • @Rhiahl 2nd Bn was all older barracks, as in the video. What were they in the 70s? I also have videos here of Vint Hill Farms and of Ft. Ord.

  • When I was there in 73 and 74... company E was not in the wooden barracks... we had a big brick barracks... that had its own mess hall

  • @GraberBill Was what you describe not in this video? The more modern brick buildings used by the infantry in the 60s are going to be reacquired by the military security operation that is still there in what was 1st Bn. I was there last week and took a lot of video. It will take me a while to edit the video and get it up on YouTube.

  • 29:37...take a left to go where the old PX and the cafeteria used to be.

  • I use to live there for a short time. Both my parents were stationed there in the 70s.

  • Gosh ! Alan you were born at Ft. Devens during the time I was there. 1953-1957. 501 HQ&HQ Co. ASA school. Enjoyed going back when we would be in New England on vacation several yrs. ago but haven't been to Ft. Devens since they did away with the golf course and the ASA school being moved . Live in Fl. and still enjoy New England each fall.

  • Wow are you related to Geoff? We lived there in 1966 and I just found some pictures of him. Good to see you on youtube.

  • @AlanHemenway You know I don't remember. I know people that probably do. I was sent to Augsburg which opened in the early 70's and there are a lot of people that may. Our reunion is in Vegas this year so I'll see if there is someone who remembers.

  • When we were there 76-85, the USAISD was moved. Dad retired as CSM of 2nd BN, He was also there earlier-63, then 64-68 with the old ASA as a student. I graduated from Ayer High '83 from those old ASA barracks, and I worked at the Pizza Shop right next to those old buildings. They had to close our high school because of Asbestos, so since the school moved up the hill, Ft Devens allowed us to use those buildings for school! Wonderful, but sad memories.
