  • I saw Bonnie Raitt in this same funky old place in 1981, but she did NOT sing this song, dammit.

  • What's amazing is that John wrote this (I guess) in his 20's and being the same age, this and Hello In There and others hit me like a bullett.

Now, that John and I - and a few others - are a bit longer in the tooth, he's even more profound. Incredible.

  • @nowonderI4get He did write it, he had a senario in his head about a lonely woman, watch wwwDOTyoutubeDOTcom/watch?v=eXqFFfVpnhQ

  • Jesus.....Does it get any better than this? What a great piece of writing...so simple but sooooo good!

  • I am with you zoomee65. Its amazing how people cant just enjoy the beauty in anything anymore without disecting it.

  • @nowonderI4get Well Mr. Smart Ass....tell us just who in the fuck wrote it?

  • So John met the devil at the cross roads and the devil laughed. John said I am smart and can do it without you. The devil said I have song in my pocket but it's for a woman but it will work if you want it. John said "fuck you". The devil laughed and said it's yours, free of charge but you owe me.

Reverse engineer this song. Look at the lyrics and tell me a guy wrote it. I LOVE John Prine but I can't see a guy writing this song or either it's brilliance par excellon. Maybe its just me
