"The game, by default, only recognizes Xbox 360 controllers. If you're using anything else you'll need to download this Xbox 360 controller emulator, extract the files to your bit.trip beat folder, and then run "x360ce.exe" to configure your buttons."

+ enable xinput9_1_0.dll (Options -> Installed Files)

This isn't even very hard, the only "hard" part is the shitty gamepad requirement. Gladly, you can cheat and just poke at the switches in the game a little and make it think you're using a gamepad, when you're just using a USB mouse.

@5THunderlord only a very limited list of gamepad are supported, xbox gamepad being one of them

This was was a pain in the **** to do with a controller. Managed to do it though after about 20 **** ups.
