Don't bank on the isle of man - Liar

On the 6 th November 2008 barely a month after the UK Government purposefully bankrupted a bank on the Isle of Man in order to scavenge the funds to help pay UK depositors in a UK bank the Economic Secretary to The Treasury Ian Pearson MP uttered the immortal words:-

On the question whether depositors in the Isle of Man or Guernsey had any choice in the matter of opening offshore accounts, or whether non-UK residents are forced to open accounts offshore, I can confirm that this is not the case. [HANSARD: 6 Nov 2008 : Column 470]

It should be noted that he may not actually have been lying. He had only been in the job a month and may not have had a clue. Or he may just be stupid.

Fabulous - the reality is that you CANNOT BANK IN UK IF YOU DON'T LIVE IN UK.

This isn't set in LAW but IN THE BANKS COMMON PRACTICE as discovered by the Treasury Select Committee.

The Abbey, Bradford and Bingley now owned by that big Spanish bank want ID for EVERY NEW ACCOUNT OPENED regardless whether you have had one with them for donkeys years!!!

Thanks but I would go one further. Before AML we can bank in UK, after AML we can't. They say it's not the law but clearly it is. There's no law that says I cannot gouge out Ian Pearson's eyes with a soldering iron but if I tried I would be arrested for breaking a whole load of other laws. HMG has created a situation using legal means to prevent British nationals living temporarily or permanently outside UK to bank legally in the UK. If that's not the law then I'm John Prescott in a tutu.

Can't argue with this - it's all in black and white. At the very least Ian Pearson is guilty of not checking his facts before going on record - surely not something we should accept in our ministers. Still it does explain a lot - no wonder they can line their pockets and walk away. We allow it.

Brilliant - what more proof does anyone need to know that the goverment consists of a bunch of liars. All attempts to get to the truth have been thwated as all requests for freedom of information to their dirty secrets have been denied. This is the sort of government you might expect to find in Zimbabwe!!
